Kelham Island & Neepsend Heritage Trail wins at Sheffield Design Awards 2019.
We are excited to announce that the Kelham Island and Neepsend Arts & Heritage Trail was a joint winner for the Keith Hayman Award for Public Art at the Sheffield Design Awards last night.
The Arts & Heritage Trail is a collaboration between Kelham Island & Neepsend Community Alliance and Kelham Island Arts Collective. The projects include Kurb Art, commissioned by Citu and the Utility Boxes sponsored by local businesses. These are complimented with art found throughout the neighbourhood which celebrates our heritage.
Craig Wolstenholme, the project leader for the Arts & Heritage Trail explained “I’m delighted that our hard work has been recognised through this award. A big thanks goes to all the artists, sponsors and Openreach & Virgin who granted us permission to paint the utility boxes. The Arts & Heritage Trail now includes over 60 pieces of creative community artwork reflecting the heritage of Kelham Island and it’s great to see the enjoyment it brings to visitors and residents alike.”
Not only does the Arts & Heritage Trail show the creative side of our community and that it’s cared for, public art has been proven to decrease graffiti, something that has been common in the area.
